Namo Nirvana – VIT Chennai’s Special Robotics Team

Namo Nirvana – VIT Chennai’s Autonomous Robotics Team

Namo Nirvana is a robotics team officially recognized as a special team of VIT Chennai, specializing in the development of autonomous robotic systems. Born from a shared curiosity for intelligent machines and real-world problem-solving, our journey began with a few passionate students who believed in learning by building.

Our Journey

The spark that ignited Namo Nirvana came from a small group of students determined to learn beyond textbooks by building real-world autonomous systems. Our first major project, Terrain Scout, a rugged terrain-mapping rover, was designed entirely in-house—mechanically and electronically—to navigate and map unpredictable environments.

This effort earned us:

1st Prize at Pragyan Hackathon 2024 (NIT Trichy)

A Design Patent for Terrain Scout’s unique embedded control architecture

Following this success, we expanded our expertise into aquatic robotics with AURA, an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) built for exploration and inspection in submerged environments. AURA proved its mettle by earning:

3rd Prize at Robofest Gujarat

3rd Prize at the Technovation Challenge – CEG Chennai

Today, Namo Nirvana is a close-knit yet multidisciplinary team of engineers, developers, and innovators, constantly pushing the envelope in autonomous systems and inspiring the next generation of creators.

Our Work in Electronics & Embedded Systems

At the heart of our robots lie robust, custom-engineered electronics that control everything from motor drivers to real-time data processing and telemetry. We’ve designed multiple custom PCBs in-house for:

Power Management Unit

Supports Li-Po battery input with onboard protection

3-mode rotary switch (Off / Operate / Charge)

USB-C charging interface

Designed for high-vibration environments

Computing & Sensor Board

Raspberry Pi 4 for onboard video & control

Dual ports for Raspberry Pi Camera v2.1 (1080p @ 60fps)

ESP32 microcontrollers for sensor processing and motor control

ADXL345 Accelerometer, BMP390 Barometer, buzzer, and SD card logging

Real-time sensor fusion and vision feedback

All PCB design, firmware development, and integration are done by our student members, providing hands-on engineering experience with industry-grade complexity.

Why We Need PCBWay

To build, iterate, and deploy our robots effectively, we require precision manufacturing, prototyping support, and affordable component sourcing. This is where PCBWay’s support could be a game-changer.

We're seeking sponsorship support in the form of:

Custom PCB Manufacturing (2-layer and 4-layer boards)

ESP32 Controllers (ESP32-WROOM & Dev Boards)

Raspberry Pi 4 Boards (4GB / 8GB)

SMD components, connectors, and ICs

Monetary sponsorship to support testing, fabrication, and logistics

With PCBWay’s backing, we will be able to:

Reduce our hardware prototyping time by 40%

Offer real manufacturing experience to more students

Elevate the quality and reliability of our competition-ready robots

Contribute more to open-source and STEM education outreach

Looking Ahead

Namo Nirvana continues to grow with upcoming projects in aerial robotics, AI-powered navigation systems, and multi-agent autonomous coordination. Our ultimate vision is to develop robots that can adapt to any terrain—land, water, or air—independently.

With PCBWay as a partner, we believe we can bring this vision to life, while inspiring and training the next generation of robotics engineers.

Thank you for considering our proposal.

We are excited about the opportunity to work with PCBWay and would be proud to showcase your support across all our events, documentation, and platforms.
