FastForest - Formula Student - Germany

FastForest - Technische Hochschule Deggendorf

Since the student association was founded on June 16, 2008, racing cars have been built at THD – first with combustion engines, then also with electric vehicles. Since the 2011/2012 season, however, we have limited ourselves to electric vehicles.

Formula Student

The Formula Student is a large community of like-minded students from different countries. As part of this international design competition, the individual teams develop, manufacture and present a racing car. In order to prevail against teams from all over the world, however, it is not enough to just build the fastest car. The jury, which consists of experts from the motorsport, automotive and supplier industries, evaluates the construction, cost and business plan of the individual teams, as well as compliance with the strict set of rules. In addition, the students demonstrate in various dynamic disciplines how their self-built cars fare on the race track. Course content can thus be supplemented and deepened with practical experience. Although the Formula Student is a competition, people are always happy to help each other. So we are very happy to be part of the Formula Student family.

Electric System

Decentralized Control Units

· The Vehicle Control System is split up in 9 Electronic Control Units

· The ECUs can communicate over two Can-buses

· The PCBs are assembled in sintered housings to protect them against water, dust and mechanical damage and keep the weight increase as small as possible.

· All ECUs have the same standardized connectors

· All ECU are supplied with 24 V

Structure of a control unit and standard ECU

· Every ECU consist of two parts; the Domain Control Unit short DCU, and the Module Board

· The Domain Control Unit is standardized for all ECUs

· The module board is specialised for certain functions

· The DCU and the MB are connected with a standardized connector board

ECU Dashboard

· PCB directly included in the dashboard

· Vehicle status via LEDs

· Setting power status

· Push buttons at steering wheel

· 128x64 OLED Display
