Dotiful

About the Team and our Project

We are senior Electrical Engineering students at the University of Texas at El Paso. For our senior project we came up with the idea of creating a device that will help individuals who are visually impaired how to read and write Braille. After some research we discovered that the majority of people who are visually impaired live in low income settings and therefore, can’t afford either a tutor or any of the currently available Braille-teaching devices in the market. Our goal is not only to develop a more affordable Braille-teaching device, but to be just as effective as its competitors in the market.

Dotiful and its parts

Dotiful (the name of our device) will allow the user to interact with it as if it were a laptop. This way the user can input any character or words he or she will want to spell and read it on an interactive braille screen. Other features for our device will include voice recognition, a game, and an interactive teaching mode.

Having the support from PCBWay for our team would be a great advantage because we will be able to prototype different boards and therefore, help keep the overall cost of our project to a minimum.
