Traditional Incense Cones – Instructions & mold
Materials Needed
For the Mold:
- 3D-printed split mold (from this project) Order below
- Rubber band or small clamps
- Optional: release agent (oil, vaseline, or talcum powder)
For the Incense Cones Mixture:
- 50 g finely ground charcoal
- 7 g ground frankincense
- 3 g ground sandalwood
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 20 ml water or more
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Make the Binding Agent:
- Mix starch with 2–3 tbsp cold water.
- Boil the rest of the water and stir in the starch mix.
- Simmer until gel-like, then cool.
2. Prepare the Dough:
- Mix charcoal, frankincense, and sandalwood.
- Gradually add gel and knead into firm dough.
3. Prepare the Mold:
- Apply a light coat of release agent.
- Lay both halves open on the table.
4. Fill the Mold:
- Press dough into each half – the cone tip stays open.
5. Close the Mold:
- Join halves and secure with rubber band/clamps.
- Let rest 30 minutes.
6. Unmold & Dry:
- Open and remove cones.
- Air-dry 2–3 days or dry at 50°C (120°F) in the oven.
Safety Instructions
During Production:
- Wear gloves and a dust mask.
- Ensure proper ventilation.
- Keep away from open flames.
During Drying:
- Never leave the oven unattended.
- Dry at max. 50°C with door slightly open.
When Burning:- Use a fireproof surface.
- Never leave burning incense unattended.
- Keep away from children and flammable materials.
- Avoid drafts.
Environment & Disposal:
- Dispose of ashes when fully cooled.
- Do not compost.
- Use only natural ingredients.
