INFRARED SENSOR
This 3D CAD rendering models a standard three-pin infrared obstacle avoidance sensor module widely used in electronics and robotics projects. The device functions as a proximity detector by utilizing a paired infrared transmitter and receiver system mounted at the front of the printed circuit board. The clear component, labeled D1, is an infrared light-emitting diode that continuously transmits invisible light beams into the surrounding environment. Directly beneath it is component D2, a black photodiode designed specifically to capture that emitted light whenever it bounces off a nearby physical object or surface.
Once the receiver captures the reflected light, the analog signal is sent to the central integrated circuit labeled U1, which is typically an LM393 operational amplifier configuration acting as a voltage comparator. This chip compares the received voltage against a preset threshold and converts it into a clean, stable digital high or low output signal. Users can manually calibrate this detection threshold and alter the sensing range by turning the screw on the blue multi-turn potentiometer component. The small surface-mount resistors labeled R1, R2, and R3 stabilize the internal voltages, while the indicator diode labeled D3 provides visual confirmation by illuminating whenever an obstacle enters the detection zone. Finally, the system routes its power, ground, and resulting digital signal outputs through the three-pin male header block located on the right edge of the board.
