ESP32-S3 Smart E-Paper IoT Development Board
This project is a compact and low-power IoT development board based on the ESP32-S3 microcontroller and a 1.52-inch e-paper display. It is designed as a flexible platform for developing portable, battery-powered, and always-on IoT devices.
The ESP32-S3 provides Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing the board to communicate with cloud services, mobile applications, local servers, and other IoT devices. The e-paper display consumes very little power because it mainly requires energy when the displayed content is updated, making the system suitable for applications requiring long battery life.
The hardware integrates a USB Type-C interface for programming and power, Li-Ion/LiPo battery support with an onboard charging circuit, and accessible GPIO connections for external sensors and modules. Its compact design makes it suitable for integration into custom enclosures and portable products.
Potential applications include smart information displays, environmental monitoring, wireless sensor nodes, electronic labels, status dashboards, reminders, and other low-power IoT devices.
A future development direction is to utilize the ESP32-S3's processing capabilities for lightweight Edge AI. Sensor data can be processed directly on the device for classification, anomaly detection, or intelligent decision-making before important information is transmitted to the cloud. This can reduce network traffic, improve response time, and enable certain functions to operate without an Internet connection.
The main goal of this project is to create an accessible and reusable hardware platform that combines low-power display technology, wireless connectivity, battery operation, and expandable embedded hardware in a compact form factor.
