BulkyModem-32 (Mini RS-232)
A few years ago I witnessed the era of Wifi Modems arriving for vintage PCs in every corner of the world, and like I usually do - I set out to build my own version of it - the BulkyModem. Except I couldn't make it work, so it ended up in a box... And after picking it up again in 2024, it totally works - and you can join me on an adventure to rediscover the joys of connecting to BBSes over Wi-Fi. This particular "mini"-variant is based on ESP32, and has an RS-232 interface for connecting it up many vintage systems.
The software running on the ESP32 is Zimodem, emulating old-style Hayes "AT"-commands. As for the hardware it implements a 5-wire configuration, meaning that it actively uses RTS/CTS for flow control - beyond that you should not need to change any of the default settings.
