Description
3D Printed Electrcial Motor
With this model you can build a simple electric motor to understand how it works. These are the files used in our Youtube tutorial video on how to build an electric motor.
The rotor and commutator part is the most important. The support arms can be made at home from wood but 3D printing looks better. The stator arms were built to fit the magnets I had, but you can make them at home very easily from from scrap wood.
Other parts used
- 5mm diameter Steel rod for the axle
- 22mm Copper pipe, cut to length of commutator, cut in half to make the separated commutator plates
- 2x bearings (625 2RS)
- 0.22mm diameter (31 AWG) enamelled magnetic copper wire
- Thick copper wire (or large paperclip) for electrical connection to commutator
- Magnets
Tools used
- 3mm drill bit
- Super glue to attach the commutator plates to the rotor
- Sand paper
- Saw to cut copper pipe in half
- Pipe cutter to cut segment of pipe (optional) hacksaw will do
