Weather Satellite Using Telemetry Communication in the 2.4 GHz Frequency Band


The DUMLUPINAR Model Satellite Team was established in 2021 by students interested in the science and industry of aviation within the Aerospace and Aviation Society of Kütahya Dumlupınar University. It is also part of the TEKNOFEST Coordination. These students have participated in the 7th and 8th Model Satellite Competitions of Teknofest since the 2021-2022 academic year, with the aim of encouraging scientific and technological advancements and sharing their knowledge and experiences.


The satellite, consisting of two parts as Carrier and Payload, separates from each other using a uniquely designed separation system at the desired altitude after being released from the planned altitude. Both continue their descent with passive landing systems, which are parachutes. The Carrier and Payload can independently collect and transmit real-time temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, position, and altitude data to the Ground Station system. The sensors used in the system can analyze data with an accuracy of ±1.0℃ for temperature, ±3% for humidity, ±1 hPa for pressure, and ±1 meter for altitude. A Kalman Filter has been used to minimize the margin of error in the data. The communication module in the system allows communication up to 5000 meters in open areas. The system operates completely autonomously; however, it can also be manually controlled through a designed interface using the custom flight software algorithm. Additionally, it can both live stream video and record video. The likelihood of data loss is very low due to the radio frequency communication. As a result, in this innovative project, data collected at the planned altitudes is analyzed with the uniquely designed avionic system.
