Inertis Studio: 19-Sensor IMU Full-Body Motion Capture Node & Waist Hub
Overview & Problem
Professional motion capture is prohibitively expensive for indie game developers, often requiring thousands of dollars in optical infrastructure and enterprise licenses. **Inertis Studio** solves this by providing an affordable, modular, 19-sensor IMU-based full-body motion capture system built specifically for indie creators.
How It Works & Architecture
- Central Waist CPU Hub: An ESP32-powered core unit that acts as the wireless telemetry coordinator. It features a battery-free, USB-C powered design and connects via a lightweight daisy-chain harness to 19 distributed IMU nodes.
- 100Hz UDP Telemetry: Low-latency sensor packets stream over dual-band 2.4GHz / 5GHz Wi-Fi straight to a local Windows workstation via UDP port 6969.
- Web Serial Provisioning: Users plug the Waist Hub into any Chromium browser via USB-C to flash Wi-Fi credentials and target workstation IPs instantly using the Web Serial API.
- Software Ecosystem: Built with a React and Vite frontend studio viewport, backed by Supabase for user authentication and hardware license management (`MFS-` series MAC serial binding).
Custom PCB & Hardware Design
The custom PCB nodes are purpose-built for wearable ergonomics, featuring multi-pin connectors on opposite sides for clean daisy-chaining along the body's limbs. Utilizing MPU-6500 sensor nodes, the hardware eliminates bulky hobbyist breakout boards and jumper wires, offering a streamlined, lightweight mocap suit solution.
