The F4992-ESP32S3 is meant to replace or upgrade the F4992 CPU board of a Sansui P-L 35, P-L45 or P-L55 (and perhaps other) linear tracking turntable.

By replacing the CPU with a modern ESP32-S3, we effectively convert the vintage record player to a smart turntable with IOT capabilities.

The CPU will take charge of controlling the tonearm and will add WIFI connectivity, remote access to the turntable functionality, usage statistics. It uses the turntable's peripherals to detect record size, determine speed and make the platter spin accordingly, move the tonearm and drop the needle at the proper place to play small and large records. The vintage electronics still take charge of record following.

The ESP32 does not touch the playback audio path.

Controlling the turntable can now be done with physical pushbuttons or remotely via WIFI on the turntable's web interface. The open-source firmware is MQTT compliant and can be autodiscovered by Home Assistant.

Firmware update can be done over-the air.

Additional add-on hardware or functionality can be installed. One such example is added RGB pixel LED strip.
