The greasy mids and cutting high end that resulted from an inefficient circuit design and under-rated output transformer and speaker of the classic amplifier are captured in full detail in the Catalinbread Formula No. 5. Utilizing cascading JFET gain stages for a softer sound and natural attack/decay, the basis of the tweed tone is formed. The Tone control acts as both a bright cap and a high frequency roll-off depending on the Gain setting. At high gain, just like the amp, the Tone control has very little effect and more effect when the Gain is at lower settings. This helps the Catalinbread Formula No. 5 capture the true essence of a Tweed 5E3 circuit and like the original, the pedal cleans up nicely with the volume knob making it a fantastic choice for an always on pedal.
