It brings us great pleasure to talk at last about the Blackout Effectors Musket, probably the best Big Muff Pi version that was ever on the market. There are a lot of Big Muff clones out there. All have the same architecture, probably with some mods. Most are based on the infamous Russian Big Muff variant, a more bass friendly version of it’s American sister. What makes the Musket stand out? First of all, it offers a lot more tone shaping possibilities. You have your standard Level, Fuzz, Tone knobs for what the Big Muff is known, but you have a little bit of magic happening in the imput of the circuit. First is the PRE knob, that is primarily a transparent Fat boost – meaning it cleanly boosts the overall signal before it goes in the rest of the circuit, with a bit of emphasis on the bass frequencies. Next you have the Mids. Normally, that wouldn’t be an option, but here you can boost or cut them to your ears’ delight. Adding Mids and boosting the Low end too much might add a lot of dirt to your signal, the muff becoming muffled… lol… so you have your focus knob, which eliminates part of the low end so that you have a tight response. That’s it. Simple, effective.
