AirSENSE-Mobile – ESP32-Based Portable Air Quality Monitoring System
AirSENSE-Mobile is an open-source portable air quality monitoring system designed to measure and visualize environmental conditions in real time. The project focuses on collecting air quality data using a compact, battery-powered device that can be easily deployed in different locations.
The motivation behind this project comes from the increasing concern about air pollution and its impact on health and daily life. Many existing monitoring systems are expensive, fixed in one location, or not open for learning and customization. AirSENSE-Mobile was created to provide an affordable, flexible, and educational solution that can be used by students, researchers, and makers to better understand environmental data through hands-on experimentation.
The system is built around an ESP32 microcontroller, which handles sensor data acquisition and wireless communication. Environmental sensors such as temperature, humidity, and air quality sensors are connected to the ESP32 to continuously collect data. The measured values are processed and transmitted wirelessly via WiFi or Bluetooth to a mobile application or web-based dashboard, where users can monitor and analyze air quality in real time.
AirSENSE-Mobile is designed as an open-source hardware and software project. All design files, including schematics, PCB layouts, and source code, are shared publicly to encourage collaboration and further development. The project can be extended with additional sensors, data logging, or cloud integration, making it suitable for educational purposes, research projects, and smart city or IoT applications.
