Delay sector replacement for Simplex secondary clock
In this project, I made a replacement delay sector gear for the American 'Simplex' secondary clock, as replacement sectors no longer appear to be produced. To reduce potential future wear, I chose to manufacture the part from brass instead of the original copper. The brass gear sector was produced using wire-cut electrical discharge machining (EDM). While EDM results in a slightly rougher tooth finish compared to CNC machining, it is a much more economical method for achieving this level of precision. In the photos, you can see the original copper gear alongside the new brass version, as well as its placement within the clock assembly.
