IBM PS/2 Floppy adapter v.1 for Media Sense cables
IBM PS/2 Floppy adapter for Media Sense cables. Tested on 9590, 35sx, 56sx, 57sx machines but should work with other models with media sense equally. Machines in the "Tested" list, come from successful feedback ;)
It allows normal floppy drives to substitute faulty IBM PS/2 drives that use 34P IDC connector with Media Sense signals.
Not to be used with 55sx and other edge connector drives. For edge connector drives you need to buy another adapter (5 resistor pull HIGH layout).
Instructions:
Plug the original *twisted* connector from the computer in "IBM/PS2" connector and the straight IDC 34P connector to the new generic drive (straight cable is provided in the package). Connect Berg connector to floppy power and you are good to go.
Reference diskette might be needed to Auto configure the drive (and also test it ;) ).
Please note:
Adapter will present only a 1.44 floppy to PS/2 in the BIOS.
New floppy drive should be able to read 720 but to format it, you need /f:720 parameter. No warranty in 720 behavior though as it depends on the floppy handling the DD.
