Motor driver for PILOMAR 3D printed telescope project
After decades out of the topic, I'm slowly getting back into electronics development again. Currently developing a semi autonomous motor control board for the 'pilomar' telescope project. PCBWay have manufactured some fantastic prototype boards for me over the last few years. It has been easy to upload a design from tools like KiCAD and verify that the uploaded design should be produced as expected. There are plenty of tailoring options for the manufacturing process, but I've found the default settings have worked really well for my amateur projects. Shipping has been impressive, I usually have the boards back on my workbench in the UK 7 days after submitting the order for production in China. Haven't had any faulty boards delivered in any orders I've placed. The PCB color options have been really useful too, as I can assign different colors to each variation of a board to make them easier to differentiate. I particularly like the matt black finish on my last batch that looks really smart. I thought I would always be limited to protoboard constructions but love that even as a hobbyist I can get really neat PCBs so easily and quickly, it makes projects look so much smarter when they are finished and I feel it makes the circuits more robust knowing that they are manufactured to a higher level than I can manage at home. I'm currently ordering unpopulated PCBs but hope to try a populated surface mounted component design too eventually.
