Spool Lock Adaptor for Bambu A1 AMS Lite
Demo
Summary
This adapter actively locks any size of spools to prevent them from dropping off the AMS lite. I think it's a must-have now that A1 is returning and offers a configuration to put the AMS on top of the X gantry. The spool falling from a height can easily damage the vulnerable building plate!
Introduction
There are several spool adapters for AMS lite already, but they just fill the inner diameter gap, and the spool can still slide. I designed my solution to lock the spool securely. You can use it for any spools or leave it on an idle spool holder.
It's easy to install/uninstall with one hand:
- For standard spools or an idle rotary shaft, push the adapter to the center of the shaft until you hear a clicking sound.
- For spools with larger inner diameters, insert the adapter and rotate clockwise until it locks the holder by the step.
The rotating and locking make exchanging spools an enjoyable operation!
Motivation
As a robot maker, I use 3D printing intensively. The Bambu Lab's A1 series is usually stable, but the AMS lite's spool holder has a problem with third-party spools with large inner diameters. The spools would slide and eventually drop to hit something. My coworkers and I were shocked by the sound several times and worried about possible damage to the machine. So, I tried to design a solution.
I iterated it several times, like designing our formal product. I haven't tested it on all possible spools, but it works on my six spool models. Let me know if you find any exceptions so I can adjust the design.
Printing Notes
Please select all the files in one color theme and load them "as a single object with multiple parts" into the Bambu Studio or other slicers. The slicer may think the tiny components of the logo are designed in meters or inches, but they are not. So do NOT scale to millimeters.
It takes about one hour to print at an extra draft resolution (0.28mm). The resolution doesn't affect the core functionality. If you don't print in multicolor, it can be even faster. But why not get stylish coloring since you already have a multicolor printer? You can lay either the top or bottom on the building plate; the timing and quality are almost the same.
