The requirementMany ICs are now only available in SMT (Surface Mount Technology) footprints for example the Microchip ATTiny 0, 1 and 2 series. This makes prototyping difficult when using these components. The marketThere are many SMT to DIL adapters out there but at hefty prices per adapter. So I rolled my own. The solutionI chose SOT-23, SOIC8 and SOIC16 footprints because these cover the majority of requirements - for me anyway since I have yet to use an LFCSP device, although that will soon happen. I considered QFP and QFN also but there are so many pin count options that I decided to do those as a separate panel. FeaturesIncluded with the SOIC8 and 16 footprints on this panel are also TSSOP and MSOP packages on the same adapter as the SOIC package, and SOT23-6 can be used for SOT23-3 and SOT23-5 packages making this a very versatile board. There are 36xSOT23-6 plus 20xSOIC8 plus 8xSOIC16 (also works for SOIC14) adapters on a panel of 100x95mm.There are v-grooves for separating the adapters into strips but be aware that there is a need to cut the final adapters apart. Using a thinner 1mm pcb helps make this an easy task. I will add some pics to this narrative soon.
