I am preparing a 3D?printed enclosure project and would like your engineering feedback before finalizing the design.
The enclosure (40 pieces) will be printed in ABS, with 4 mm wall thickness, and the outer dimensions are 180 × 80 × 55 mm. It will be used outdoors in a marine environment, so water?resistance, UV?resistance, and overall durability are important. The design also includes four M4 heat?set inserts.
In addition, the enclosure will be partially potted to protect the internal electronics.
Could you please advise on the construction details and sealing approach for this enclosure?
Specifically, I would appreciate your recommendations regarding:
- Suitable wall structure for a rugged outdoor enclosure
- A practical sealing method (gasket, O?ring groove, or compression lip)
- Design considerations for potting (clearances, venting, potting volume, material compatibility)
- Any adjustments needed to improve durability and water?resistance
- Recommended tolerances for reliable assembly
I can provide the STEP/STL files for your review if needed.
Thank you in advance for your support and engineering suggestions.
